For guidance on the hazardous properties of dangerous goods, as well as their chemical and physical properties or of belonging to a certain group of hazardous substances, used for classification codes, which in themselves reveal the properties of the cargo.
Classification code of dangerous goods is a letter (s) is (their) hazardous property group, which may be supplemented by figures on the physical or chemical properties of the goods or their affiliation with a particular group of chemicals.
For dangerous substances or articles of Hazard Class 1, the code consists of a division number and compatibility group letter. For dangerous substances or articles of Class 2 hazard code consists of numbers and letters (letters) is (their) group of hazardous properties. Dangerous substances or articles of Class 7, the danger does not have a classification code.
Meanings of the letters that are used in the classification of dangerous goods codes:
- A - Suffocating gases
- C - Corrosive substances
- D - Desensitized explosive substances
- F - Flammable substances
- I - Infectious substances
- M - Other dangerous substances
- O - Oxidizing agents
- P - Organic peroxides
- SR - Self-reactive substances
- S - Substances liable to spontaneous combustion
- T - Toxic substances
- W - Substances that emit flammable gases in contact with water
Examples of classification codes of dangerous goods of different classes:
- 1.1А, 1.2B, 1.3C, 1.4S – for dangerous goods IMO class 1;
- 1А, 2TC, 3O, 5F - for dangerous goods IMO class 2;
- D, F1, FO, ST3 - for dangerous goods of other IMO classes.
